Finalizing the idea and making the prototype

16th November

Unfortunately our maps were not ready by today’s class since we were having some internal issues within group so ma’am gave us an extension.

We then started discussed our installation ideas with ma’am but we didn’t get approval for any of them. So then we had to sit and brainstorm more on how we could make an installation which just by looking at it gives us the essence of the ISKCON temple.

After some time we again came up with 3 new ideas out of which ma’am finally liked one of them. Then we had to make technical drawing of our installation. Finally we started making our prototype.

Mapping

9th November

Today’s class ma’am explained to us about what mapping is and what kind of maps do we actually have to make for the project. We had to make maps on the basis on the 5 senses, history – culture and people (crowd). First we have to make a rough layout on how base map is going to look like. Once that is finalized, we have to make that on an A2 map. Then according to how many maps we are making, we have to trace that on tracing paper. The history – culture map includes the changes that have taken in that place (then and now), second map is for the number of people that visit the place, crowd on specific days or timings and for the last one we have to the 5 senses. We can use legends and colors to differentiate different things.

We sat in groups and we first made the base map of how we think ISKCON temple looks like. Then we wrote down the maps that we thought we would make.

For the next class we have to finish mapping and come up with a proper idea of our installation so we can start making the prototype in class.

Discussing ideas

2nd November

Today’s class was taken by Sudeb sir since Sonia ma’am was unable to come. Since we had visited our places, we had to start discussing how our installation would look like. Our installation should give the essence of our religious place through our senses. Our religious place was the ISKCON temple.

We sat in groups and started to discuss ideas about how we would want our installations to look like. We came up with a couple of ideas but we weren’t sure which one would be the best. So we decided to discuss our ideas with ma’am in next class.

Other groups also gave their ideas on how their installations would look like. They were sounding pretty amazing and I’m looking forward to see how well they actually turn out to be.

Sketching

17th October

We were actually going to do mapping in today’s class but since not many people were present in the class today (some of the outstation students left for their homes for vacation), we did detailing drawing of our religious places.

Last week we had visited our religious places and had clicked many pictures too. So we had to make detailed drawing of one of the pictures that we clicked.

It took both the classes to complete one drawing. Here is it.

Project 2

5th October

We were introduced to the 2nd project for the semester that was on the 5 human sketches. We were dived into groups of 5 and asked to choose a famous religious place in Mumbai. We chose the ISKON Temple. We have to explore that place and collect information using our 5 senses. We have to analyze things such as textures, colors used, smell, architecture, different sounds heard, etc. Basically we have to convert all the intangible things into tangible things while making our project.

As an activity and to understand the project better we had to go and explore any place in college using our 5 senses. I and my group decided to go to the workshop. These were some of the things we saw in the workshop and next to it are the textures we can feel and the things that we can relate to when we see those objects.

Sand belt – sand paper effect

Blades – knife, sharp

Body of the machinery – smooth as leather.

Tables (having blade cut marks) – laborer’s hand

Thermocol – bubble wrap

Wood – dust

Fevicol – whitener

Burning – ash

Clay – mug

Floor cleaner liquid – freshener

Aluminum sheets with holes – braille

Rust – sides of the match box that ignites the match sticks

For the week we have to visit or religious place and collect imformation.

The final composition

21st November

We had make a composition in the given space (back ground) with the two characters of our story. First I drew both my characters and then drew the space in which they are there. Once I was done making the drawing manually, I decided to draw it digitally. This is what I made in class today.Untitled 8

Character making digitally

14th November

Today’s class started off with a very interesting composition. We had to choose a photograph of a face and silhouette of the skyline. The silhouette was to be placed on the head of the face. By using the inverse masking the silhouette was visible on the head of the face. Later we had to give a texture to the face. This is what my artwork looked like…Untitled 6

Then we had to work on our characters on photoshop or illustrator. Untitled 7

Masking

7th November

Today we learnt another making that is layer masking. In this masking two different pictures are placed on two different layers and then using the brush tool, we can reveal or hide the parts that we want or don’t want to be seen. We did the apple exercise to understand this masking.Untitled 2

Next exercise was my favorite. We had to insert an image in a wine glass using masking. Here is the artwork that I made.Untitled 3

We also learnt how to add perspective to an image. It’s very simple. Just by using the distort option we can give a normal picture perspective.Untitled 4

Next exercise we had to edit pictures such that they look as if they are kept inside something, like a slit. Here is what I made…Untitled 5

Last exercise was to make a poster sort of thing for a cellphone. We had to add its reflection, give a shadow and give effects on the background. I couldn’t make it due to shortage of time but here is the edit my classmate made.week-12-classwork-4

Finally we were taught how to give color to a black and white image. By using hue and saturation, the color can be added. Sir gave us a demo of this on a black white picture of female. He gave color to his hair, eyes, lips, skin, etc using this method and using the brush tool the eyeline was highlighted.

Starting photoshop

31st October week 3

Today we started learning about Photoshop. We had a joint session again and Ram sir took over the class. He started off with teaching us the basic things in Photoshop like the art board in Photoshop is called as the canvas, told us about the two methods that we can work in that is destructive method and non-destructive method.

Then we were taught about basic tools in photoshop. First was the selection tool also known as marching ant as the selection made had borders that looked like ants marching. Second was the lasso tool. There are 3 types of lasso tools: lasso tool, polygon lasso tool and magnetic lasso tool. Command D is to be used when you want to deselect a selection. Every new selection should be done on a new layer. We also learnt that we can add and subtract selections too.

Next tool was the magic wand. This tool helps make a selection by detecting the same color. Size of the brush can be increased by [and decreased by].

We then started with the very basic photoshop edits. There were two pictures in which the vegetables were kept in certain positions and the second one had its composition. Using the tools we just learnt, we had to crop the vegetables from image one and make the same composition like the second one.Untitled 1

Second half the class we learnt other tools of photoshop.  Masking means revealing only a part of the image through the shape. The different types of masking are- Clip mask, Layer mask, Greyscale mask, Channel mask, Quick mask and Vector mask. The content is the image whereas the container is the shape in which the image is put. While using masking, the content should be on the top layer and the container on the below layer. Here is an example of the masking tool…

Learning new tools on illustrator

30th October week 2

We had made a painting of our vendor using achromatic color scheme before some days, so for our next assignment we were asked to recreate that drawing on illustrator using pentool. Ram sir showed us a demo which helped us understand it better.

This is what I created on illustrator..Untitled 12

It was difficult in the beginning but once I started practicing it more, it was fun. Sir also showed us how to use blend tool and type tool.

I also made this artwork on illustrator using the pentool.Untitled 13.png
