Finalizing the concept

Week 13 – 29/3/18

We made our 6th mind map digitally and showed sir in class. We also discussed with him our idea for the final project but he didn’t like it that much so he asked us to find some more back up idea. After brainstorming for the ideas, we came up with 5 new ideas out of which sir liked one and we started working on it. We started writing down how we wanted the script to be like and how the set should look like.

Video making

Week 13 (i) – 28/3/18

We completed all our sessions so we had all the pictures and the videos ready, we only had to compile them all and make one video. In today’s class we (my group members) sat together and put all the photos and videos in one folder. Then I made the video and once it was done we showed it to sir. He asked us to make a couple of changes and a few more texts. We completed editing the video and it was completely ready by the end of the class.

Discussing the readings

Week 13 – 26/3/18

Last class we were given a set of readings out of which we had to select one and write our understanding on it. I choose the one which said, ‘Graphic Design History: Past, Present and Future.’ I got to know a lot about Graphic design and its history. I also wrote my understanding on sticky notes and stuck on it.

Ma’am called us in groups and discussed about our readings. She saw the notes that I made and asked me to read the paper again and write some more notes.

6th mind map – The common thread

Week 12 – 22/3/18

Last class we were done making 2 mind maps and over the week we completed the other 3 mind maps too. Here are they…IMG_20180316_135056__01 IMG_20180316_135114__01 IMG_20180321_122731__01

We sat down with all our 5 mind maps and started writing down the common element that connects all the 5 movies. That element would be used to make the final illustration/ movie/ video/ etc. We discussed those ideas with sir and he asked us to make the 6th mind map which has all those connections written down. By the end of the class our 6th mind map was ready but we thought of making it digital so that would be done by next class.     IMG_20180322_090844.jpg

We had a rough idea as to what we were going to do. By next class we also have to come up with our storyline for the project.

2 Videos

Week 11 & 12 (i) – 21/3/18

Sir told us about the 2 video that we have to submit for the final week. The videos have to be of 90 – 120 seconds. One video has to be about the Wednesday class – compiling all the photos and the video of the session that we did. The second video has to be for the Friday’s class which should include the research that we have done, problem and its solution.

For today’s class we could either start working on the videos or we could complete our blogs and other incomplete work.

Making mind maps

Week 11 – 15/3/18

Last week we were given a set of movies to watch and we had to watch them overt the week. In today’s class we had to make mind maps on those movie using the following points: plot/ synopsis, cinematography, costumes, lighting, music, themes, characters etc. We sat in our groups and discussed the movies and the points that we would write in the mind map. After writing the points in rough we started doing it on the fair sheet. We completed 2 mind maps here they are…IMG_20180316_134849

IMG_20180316_134930__01__01

Sir also briefed us on what we have to do next after the mind maps. We have to find a common thread in all the movies and combine the 5 mind maps and make 1 final one. For the final submission, we have to make an installation or a video or an illustration or any such thing using that common thread. For us to understand it better, he showed us a video made by some students of the previous batch – Pehchaan (please read the descriptions!).

10 concept drawings

Week 12 – 19/3/18

Last week we started with drawing our concepts. By the end of this class we had to complete making our 10 concepts and finalizing one out of them so we could start with the prototyping next class. Here are some of the logos that I designed for BNHS…

Reading about our specifications

Week 12 – 19/3/18

DESIGN BRIEFS:

  • Photography

Photography is the art of capturing the view. A photograph allows to collect memories that can be remembered lifelong. Capturing moments of all the events that happen life from birthdays to marriages, everything. It enables to relive that moment and when all these pictures are put together, it can actually narrate lives. One photograph can have a multiple meaning depending on the person’s perspective. Photography is a powerful language which speaks to one’s emotions.

Landscape photography means to be involved with nature and the elements and an escape from the artificial world.  It typically capture the presence of nature but can also focus on man-made features or disturbances of landscapes.

Color theory also plays a very important role in photography. Color theory is the technique of combing specific colors in a way that they are harmonious, or in other words, just look great together.

By following the rules of photography one can click amazing pictures: rule of third, balancing elements, leading lines, symmetry and pattern, viewpoint, background, depth, framing, cropping and experimentation.

  • Street art – graffiti-

Just like how we paint on paper, graffiti is done walls using spray paints. The technique and the style used in graffiti is different as it is done on walls. It not only makes the wall beautiful but also leaves a very important message for all those people who look at it every day. Graffiti is often also done to convey some message to the people, it also acts like a media for mass communication. Some say graffiti is art where as some say graffiti is vandalism. How and when can you say if it is actually art or just vandalism? Should graffiti be legally allowed or should it be banned?

  • Linocut-

Linocut is a printmaking technique. It’s an alternative of woodcut where a sheet of linoleum (sometimes mounted on a wood block) is used as the base surface. Materials required to do linocut are: linoleum (or an alternative base), carving tools (v-shaped chisel, sharp knife, and gouge), printing inking, paper or fabric (on which it would be printed), roller (or brayer), burnishing tool. A design is drawn (mirror image) on the linoleum surface and then cut with a sharp knife, v-shaped chisel or gouge. Once the cutting is done, the linoleum sheet is inked with a roller (called a brayer) and then imprinted onto the required fabric or paper. It is a very easy and an amazing way of printing as it’s so inexpensive and it can be done at home or in studio.

In class today, we were given a list of readings for every specification. We had to select one which we’d like to read and then write notes on it. This will help us understand our course better.

History of paintings and sculptures

Week 11 – 16/3/18

We had an interactive session today as we talked about different objects through history.hand cave paintng

Starting with the wall painting, probably the oldest form of painting. It was a picture of a cave wall on which there were many hand prints. They used natural color like red stone, etc. and there were hardly any details. This picture was of that time when humans lived in the caves.

mesopotamiun era

The second image was from the Mesopotamian era almost a 1000 years later. The image was of a tile sort of thing where the human was shown hunting. This shows the evolution how humans started to hunt using different tools.

egyptian sculpture

Next image was an Egyptian sculpture of a lady and surrounding that were carved some symbols or words. This tells us that humans started using symbols and scripts to convey messages.

The forth image was of the very famous Greek statue – Discobolus. It told us how an ideal male body structure should look like. We also saw the Roman statue Pompeius. Both these sculptures were completely 3D unlike the previous ones. We also talked about the Roman and the Greek civilizations.

We had a great discussions and got to know about so many events and objects having a great history.
